ABOUT

Carston Racing Stables offer first class thoroughbred training at the impressive Riccarton Racecourse in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Trainer Andrew Carston, has a wealth of experience in the thoroughbred racing industry throughout New Zealand and in the competitive racing jurisdiction of Sydney, Australia.

Racing is in Andrew's blood, with his family intrenched in the sport - his uncle was a jockey and trainer and his grandfather a racing journalist.

He spent seven years working for Te Akau Racing under the tutelage of Champion trainer Mark Walker.  He travelled extensively entrusted with the care of horses the ilk of champion gallopers Darci Brahma (5x Group One winner) and Princess Coup (4x Group One winner) and during that time he was an essential part of the team which saw Mark win four New Zealand Trainer Premierships.

From there Andrew joined John Sargent's team, where he spent four years - two in Riccarton and two managing his Sydney stable. In 2012 he once again celebrated a Trainer's Premiership win, this time with John.

In 2014 he returned to his home-town of Christchurch as foreman for another premiership winning trainer in Lisa Latta, and he began laying foundations for his own training endeavours.

Andrew began training in his own right in 2015. In 2018 he was honoured to accept the inaugural gavelhouse.com Newcomer to Training award - for the leading trainer within their first five seasons of training and in 2022/23 he became the South Island's leading trainer with 42 winners for the season.

In total, Andrew had trained the winners of over 228 races, 8 at Group or Listed level.

New horses are always welcomed into his stables of up to 30 horses and Andrew is happy to help with syndicate and ownership options.
