Where’s Wally found his way to the winners' circle at Phar Lap Raceway on Tuesday.
The Andrew Carston-trained gelding was the dominant 3.5 length winner of the Leg Up Oilseed Goodness (1200m) under a peach of a ride by in form jockey Joe Doyle with heavy track conditions to suit.
“It was good to have the horse back in the winners' circle,” Carston said. “His owners have been patient as he has had a couple of issues.
The eight-year-old had a torrid run last start, when he was contacted on jumping, over raced throughout before being steadied at the 300-metre mark when stable mate Seven Twenty shifted out on him.
Tuesday’s win was Where’s Wally’s sixth career win, he’s also had eleven placings and has earned over $120,000 in stakes for his owner-breeders David and Hazel Voice and Donald and Jose Arthur. Five of his wins have been on heavy surfaces.
He is by White Robe Lodge-based sire Ghibellines out of the Carnegie mare Car Key.
Carston said that despite being an older model he believes Where's Wally has plenty left in the tank.
“There’s still a bit left in the eight-year-old too, he was dominant yesterday," he said.
“We have no plans yet, but we will pick our battles and I’m confident that he’ll win some more races yet.”
The win was an early birthday present for Carston who celebrates his birthday today along with his twin sister Michelle Cameron.
