Say Satono was the super impressive winner of the final race, the Coupland Working Dog Biscuits (1400m), at Kurow on Monday.
The daughter of Satono Aladdin, jumped from barrier four with regular rider Kylie Williams on board. The pair settled in midfield and despite being held up early in the home straight, stormed home to win by three-quarters of a length.
Backing up from her last start win at Cromwell, Say Satono was sent out a $3.20 favourite, however the way that she won surprised her trainer Andrew Carston.
“It was a good field, and I thought the track might have been a little too wet for her,” he said. “I wasn’t too surprised that she won, I just didn’t expect her to win like that.
“Jeez she was good; she picked them up and dropped them in five strides.”
Bred by Rich Hill Stud, who stand her sire, Say Satono is out of the dual Group One winning Pentire mare Say No More.
She has now won four and placed in three of sixteen starts pocketing over $75,000 for her large group of owners that includes Rich Hill Thoroughbreds Ltd and Carston.
Carston said that he would now target the five-year-old mare towards the Otago Daily Times Southern Mile series, the $200,000 final of which will be run at Wingatui on March 1.
Carston came close to bookending the meeting with Friendofthedevil only narrowly beaten in the first race where she had to contend with the riderless Iceberg.
“She’s close to winning a race, we’ll take her to the West Coast next week,” he said.
