Andrew Carston posted his second winner for the week when new recruit Mr Ghibson scored in the Fiona Stuart Memorial Maiden (1600m) at the Banks Peninsula Racing Club's meeting at Riccarton.

The stable had tasted success on Thursday when Iffraajable won the NZB Insurance Pearl Series 1400 at Ascot Park and added another to the tally with the five-year-old son of Ghibellines.

Under a patient ride from Tina Comignaghi Mr Ghibson settled well towards the rear of the field while pacemakers Acquittal and Pentesla put lengths on the field out in front.

Acquital looked to have the race sown up but once in the clear Mr Ghibson let down and picked off his rivals one by one till hitting the front and winning by a comfortable three length margin.

Mr Ghibson joined Carston’s stable towards the end of last year and the Riccarton conditioner was pleased to get the win for his owner-breeders Ray and Anne Cattle.

“It was a well-deserved win,” Carston said. “He has been pretty consistent since coming South and it is great to get a win for new clients to the stable.”

“I’m very happy for Ray and Anne and hopefully he can go on from here.”

Mr Ghibson is out of Thewayiam who was purchased by the Cattles at the 2013 New Zealand Bloodstock National Yearling Sales. Thewayiam was unplaced in five starts and is a daughter of Listed winner Tristachine.
