Milford Sound was back in winning form on Friday making the most of a front running performance to take out the Otago Daily Times (2200m).
The four-year-old son of Ocean Park was third up this preparation and making the step up in distance having run over a mile at his two previous starts this campaign.
Under a confident ride from Kozzi Asano Milford Sound set the pace early and held off a challenge from Pinhead down the straight to go on and win by 2 1/4 lengths.
Trainer Andrew Carston was pleased to see Milford Sound add another win to his record and will take his time before planning his next target.
"I'm very relieved to have Milford Sound back in the winner's circle," he said. "Nothing went right for him in the spring and his runs this prep have been okay without the flashing light.
"A positive ride from Kozzi and up to the 2200m with the sting out of the track suited him nicely and I'm really happy with the performance. We'll let the dust settle and I'll have a talk with the owners before we make any future plans."
Bred by Beaufort Downs, Milford Sound is owned by John and Sally Wigley and now has two wins and three placings to his credit.
Carston also picked up placings on the day with Prima Donna, Pullyoursocksup and Russian Fable.
