Trainer Andrew Carston is eyeing a Group Two goal with his new recruit.

Hasabro proved he has settled into southern life adding to his tally with a win in the Coupland’s Bakeries Mile Trial (1400m) at Riccarton on Saturday.

The well-related son of Savabeel transferred to Carston's stable last month from Stephen McKee after the Ardmore trainer retired from racing.

He finished fourth at the same track and distance in his debut for the stable on October 2 and left no doubt about his ability on Saturday when winning by three-quarter of a length.

Hasabro travelled keenly for jockey Jacob Lowry and was pushed wide throughout and on hitting the home straight he had a bit of work to do but rose to the challenge and let down to race past his rivals and claim his sixth career victory.

Carston was impressed with the win and said the next target would be the Gr.2 Coupland’s Bakeries Mile (1600m) at Riccarton on November 10.

“It was a super win from a pretty good horse,” Carston said. “He is on track for the Coupland’s Mile.

“It was a pretty good day overall for the team and they look like they are going the right way heading towards Cup week.”

Six-year-old gelding Hasabro carries the silks of Go Racing for the Go Racing Hasabro Syndicate.
