Delmonico was back at his winning best on Thursday when scoring over a mile.
The four-year-old son of Prince of Brooklyn was fourth up this campaign and had failed to impress in his previous starts of the preparation, though turned that around with a decisive victory.
Partnered by Kozzi Asano, Delmonico travelled mid field with the pair heading to the middle of the track in search of better ground on turning for home. That proved an astute decision and Delmonico let down nicely to go on and win by 1 ¾ lengths.
Trainer Andrew Carston was pleased to see the Andari Ltd-owned Delmonico salute and felt he had benefited from a spell earlier this year.
“It was his fourth run back from a decent spell and he was making the step up to 1600m,” Carston said.
“It was a lovely ride from Kozzi and a good effort all round.
“He has been slightly disappointing after looking pretty smart but it is good to have him back in the winner’s circle. We gave him a really good break this time and aimed him for this time of year as he clearly appreciates rain affected going.”
Delmonico now has three wins to his credit and nearly $50,000 in stakes.
