Delmonico delivers at Ashburton

In form gelding Delmonico brought up his second consecutive win on Thursday when successful in the RD Petroleum Southern (1400m) at Ashburton.

The three-year-old son of Prince of Brooklyn won fresh up at Oamaru over 1200m last month and continued that momentum this time around.

Once again partnered by Terry Moseley, Delmonico was sharp out of the gates, settling in behind the early pacemakers. As the field spread out coming around the final bend Moseley spotted his gap with Delmonico responding and working hard to fight it out with Global Beauty to the line, eventually winning by a long head.

Trainer Andrew Carston was impressed with the effort and said it hadn’t been all easy going with the Andari Ltd-raced Delmonico who now has two wins from five starts.

“It was a good effort to win a maiden and then a R65,” Carston said.

“Terry rode him well so it was a good result for all. One of our trackwork riders, Bonnie Dew, has done a good job with him as he hasn’t been the easiest.

“He is a progressive type and will only continue to improve. We will see how he recovers before making any further plans.”
