Case Stud crosses the line with his ears pricked at Timaru.
Patience has paid off with Case Study who posted his deserved maiden win at the Phar Lap Raceway on Friday.
The four-year-old gelding was having his ninth career start in the Johnny Walsh 1600 and benefited from a well-timed run from in form jockey Kozzi Asano.
The son of Showcasing jumped smartly and travelled in the front half of the field one off the rail.
As the field fanned out on the turn he copped a bump but the interference didn't hinder his momentum too greatly and Case Study cruised home to win by 2.5L.
Case Study is owned by trainer Andrew Carston who said the stable favourite had taken time to mature and was showing the benefits of time.
"Case Study is on of the favourites of the yard," Carston said. "He has taken a bit of time to mature but is coming into his own now.
"It was a super ride from Kozzi and great to get the win."
