Suggestive Loox ended her racing career on a winning note on her home track of Riccarton on Saturday.

The seven-year-old mare made it six career wins in the Zilco Premier (1200m) under a paitent ride by apprentice Kozzi Asano in very trying conditions.

“She’s been a great mare for us, very handy and consistent throughout her career,” trainer Andrew Carston said.

“She’s earned her retirement and I’m happy to send her off on a winning note. She’ll go back to Rich Hill Stud in Matamata next week.”

Suggestive Loox was bred by Rich Hill Thoroughbreds Ltd and leased to an ownership group including some of Cartston’s most loyal supporters including syndicate manager Hunter Darry who was in the first horse Carston trained and his brother Ricky.

The daughter of Any Suggestion and Killa Loox is a full sister to the ten-time race winner Killa Question, who Carston looked after on a trip south early in his career for then trainer Chris Shailer.

Rich Hill Stud’s John Thompson said that Suggestive Loox will be mated with their exciting new sire Ace High this spring.

Described as a honest mare, Suggestive Loox had a well-worn race pattern throughout her career usually settling back in the field before storming home, in addition to her six race wins she finished in the top five on 26 occasions.

It was the first of two wins on the day for apprentice Kozzi Assano, who has kicked off the new season in fine form with four winners in the last week.

“Kozzi is a hard worker, he does his form and he deserves all the success that he gets,” Carston said.

“It’s great to see him going so well and being supported by the bigger stables too.”
