Recent Carston Racing recruit Black Pearl is relishing life in Christchurch, having transferred from the Cambridge Stable of Stephen Marsh in mid-June.
The Go Racing and Waimarie Breeding Partnership-raced filly did her owners proud when taking out the Go Racing Syndications – Shares Now Available Rating 65 at Riccarton on Saturday, in her first outing for trainer Andrew Carston.
The four-year-old Savabeel mare jumped well to lead from barrier one and didn’t get a speck of mud on her in a game effort that saw her tackled by second placed Heaven Knows at the 300m mark only to kick on and win under jockey Kylie Williams.
“I’ve only had her in the stable a week so I lined her up just to get a line on her,” explained a surprised Carston after the race.
“It was a surprise but a good one and great for Go Racing to get the win in the race they sponsored.
“It’s nice to have a Savabeel filly with good ability in the stable."
Carston hinted that the mare’s next outing would be in a Rating 65 event at Ashburton next Wednesday (July 4).
