KHORABELLA BAGS ANOTHER WIN AT RICCARTON

Khorabella’s last start at tenth at Timaru had trainer Andrew Cartson scratching his head but the mare made up for that dismal performance on Saturday, when she won the Breeders Association Fillies or Mares Bonus Rating 65 (1400m).

“She’s always shown heaps and I was horrified at Timaru when she went so awful,” explained Carston.

“She’s a pretty handy mare and It’s nice to get another win at Riccarton with her, she likes it here and it’s not a bad place to like either.”

The Daughter of Darci Brahma claimed her maiden win at Riccarton, her home track, in February. She then finished fourth in another good effort at the track in March before that disappointing run at Timaru earlier this month.

Khorabella was ridden on Saturday by Racha Cuneen, who has been on board for her last five starts.

Jumping for barrier one, Cuneen settled Khorabella mid field, peeling off the rail around the 800m mark before making a well-timed run down the home straight to beat Thom Brown and Lake Chalice on the line.

Bred by Jacqueline and Philip Rogers, Khorabella is by Darci Brahma out of the winning No Excuse Needed mare Belle Vida, this was her first win from eight races and she has also placed on two occasions for her owners the Rogers, Brian and Erica Rogers and J and M Gibb.
