It may have only been her third win in 24 career starts but Suggestive Loox won like a very good horse at Phar Lap Racecourse in Timaru on Wednesday.
The five-year-old mare has been a consistent horse for trainer Andrew Carston, having finished in top five in 15 of her races.
“She’s a handy mare on her day,” explained Carston. “Her racing pattern is to get back and then fly home so she just needs luck and she hasn’t been getting it.
“I wasn’t surprised to see her win, I had actually tipped her as my value bet of the day on Des Coppin’s radio show.”
Listeners who followed the tip did get value with the winning dividend $9.20.
The daughter of Any Suggestion did get back in her customary style jumping from barrier 12 with Racha Cuneen on-board and she showed a terrific turn of foot from the top of the straight to easily pass her rivals, crossing the line 2.25 lengths clear of her closest rival.
Suggestive Loox is raced by a group that includes some of Carston’s most loyal supporters including syndicate manager Hunter Darry who was in the first horse Carston trained and his brother Ricky.
The Chestnut mare will make her next appearance at Riccarton on May 5.
“Now that she’s off the mark again I think she’s in for an exciting Autumn,” added Carston.
Bred by Rich Hill Stud, Suggestive Loox is out of the City on a Hill mare Killa Loox, Suggestive Loox is a full sister to 10-time race winner Killa Question.
